WordPress meetup groups and why you should go
I’ve spent about the last three years attending the Calgary WordPress Meetup Group. It’s held once per month on the second Tuesday of each month at a place called Assembly Coworking Space. It’s a terrific place to go meet people, get new ideas and most importantly, to learn more about WordPress. This group is ever evolving and has attendees from all types of backgrounds and knowledge levels. It’s very welcoming and no question is too “n00b”; you can ask anything.
What do you want to learn about WordPress?
The group organizer, Re Carlson from Abtek has delved into numerous topics over the years I’ve been attending. Topics have included:
- Installation and set-up
- Security
- Plugins
- Optimizing for speed
- Optimizing for SEO
- Hosting and backend
- PHP and Java talk (don’t be afraid–it’s not thaaat scary!)
- WordCamp (THE YEARLY GIANT MEETUP GROUPS THAT HAPPEN AROUND THE WORLD THAT HOST SEMINARS AND TOPICS ALL RELATED TO WORDPRESS)
- WordPress.tv
- General brainstorming and open question and answer periods where members share their thoughts and ideas
If you’re interested in learning more about WordPress, check out the Meetup group and join up. There will be interesting changes coming for 2017 where more members will operate off-shoot meetups organized in addition to the regular monthly session.
